Our organization is a national nonprofit that works to connect everyone to the benefits and joys of the outdoors.
We were founded in 1972 on the conviction that all people need access to nature and the outdoors, close to home, in the cities and communities where they live. We work with communities to create parks and protect public land where they’re needed most, as a matter of health, equity, and justice.
From Hawaii’s coasts to New England’s slopes, our work is changing communities for the better all across the country, in towns big and small. Read more about the impact we’re making.
We’ve protected 3 million acres of land and connected 9 million people to the outdoors, and we’re not stopping there. See what’s possible for the future with help from supporters like you.
We’re looking for people to join our team and support our mission.

For every $1 donated, we protect $11 worth of land, so you can feel confident knowing that your donations will go a long way.
We hope you’ll stay connected with us—reach out with questions, to find a local or virtual event, or to contact your state office.
