Trust for Public Land (TPL), in partnership with Connecticut Green Bank, PT Partners, the City of Bridgeport, and a Local Advisory Committee of residents and community-based organizations conducted a study of Bridgeport’s park system over 2025–2026 through TPL’s 10-Minute Walk® Park Equity Accelerator program. The study consisted of two main components:
-
Custom ParkScore® Index: The ParkScore® index is the gold standard for comparing the park systems of U.S. cities. It ranks park systems on five measures: Acreage, Access, Equity, Investment, and Amenities. This report shares an analysis of Bridgeport’s park system using the ParkScore® methodology to identify citywide strengths and weaknesses.
-
Park Needs Analysis: Bridgeport requested support from TPL in improving its approach to investing in its parks. This analysis brings together an assessment of the physical conditions of local parks conducted by PT Partners with measures of neighborhood park need. It provides a structured framework that Bridgeport can use to prioritize top parks and neighborhoods for investment.
This report recommends an initial approach Bridgeport civic leaders can use for making targeted, data-informed investments. It also identifies specific parks and neighborhoods that are in the greatest need for investment to improve Bridgeport’s overall parks system. Without this approach, investments may reinforce rather than reduce park inequities.
