Our Work at Rock Marsh WMA

Just north of the Twin Cities metro, the Rock Marsh Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is a breathtaking green space where visitors can hike, hunt, and explore amidst rolling oak forests and wetlands shaped by the historic St. Croix River. Thanks to Trust for Public Land and our partners at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), this land will remain a sanctuary for recreation and wildlife while safeguarding water quality and critical ecosystems from development.

Our efforts protected 558 acres of oak woodlands and savannahs, nearly doubling the size of Rock Marsh WMA and marking a significant win for outdoor lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. As part of ongoing restoration work, this space will be rehabilitated to its native state, fostering a vibrant, thriving ecosystem. Visitors can look forward to trails that meander through restored forests and wetlands teeming with wildlife, offering the perfect blend of adventure and serenity. By protecting and enhancing this cherished natural area, we’re ensuring that generations of Minnesotans can continue to enjoy its beauty and tranquility for years to come.

Funding for this project was provided from the Outdoor Heritage Fund as recommended by the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council.
