Ney Wildlife Management Area

Hike along the Minnesota River in Scott County, Minnesota and you’ll find beautiful, wooded areas surrounded by tall bluffs with stunning views of the Minnesota River Valley. And thanks to support from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, local partners, and Trust for Public Land, 89 acres within this beloved valley are forever protected as the latest addition to the Ney Wildlife Management Area.

In 2013, TPL helped previously protect 128 acres within this WMA. Now, this newly protected stretch of land will provide additional recreational opportunities such as hiking, hunting, wildlife observation, and biking for visitors and for millions of Twin Cities residents less than an hour away. In the winter, this new space will provide new areas to explore, hike, ski or even snowshoe around. In addition, this space is important habitat for a variety of species, including deer and turkey native to the area.

This area will also further connect nearby state land with the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. With this new connection, hikers and other visitors can look forward to a future regional trail furthering access to this gorgeous valley.
