Forest Hills Park Playground

On the tranquil northwest side of Washington, D.C., the Forest Hills neighborhood had long depended on its local playground for community connection and childhood joy, but its play structures and open spaces were showing their age, and residents yearned for a better gathering place. That’s why the District’s Department of Parks and Recreation partnered with Trust for Public Land to bring new life to Forest Hills Playground through a deeply collaborative renovation process. Beginning in late 2012, a series of community design meetings ensured neighborhood voices would shape the park. Now, this beloved green space has been revitalized into a welcoming and engaging destination for all—play areas updated, and amenities refreshed in a park by the community, for the community.
