Farm River

Near the headwaters of the Farm River in south-central Connecticut, Trust for Public Land is working to conserve 24 acres of the former Amatrudo Farm, a key piece of a larger effort to protect the health of this significant watershed.

The Farm River flows through a 26-square-mile watershed and helps supply drinking water to hundreds of thousands of residents served by the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority. The river also supports one of the state’s largest wild trout populations among coastal rivers and provides critical habitat for migratory fish like alewife, sea-run brown trout, and American eel.

Our efforts here are part of a long-term vision to improve water quality, preserve native habitat, and buffer local communities from the impacts of a shifting climate.  The Amatrudo Farm is a rare opportunity to strengthen an intact network of protected lands by offering refuge for threatened species, absorbing stormwater, and supporting resilient landscapes.

By protecting this farm, we’re helping ensure the Farm River continues to support clean drinking water, biodiversity, and outdoor recreational opportunities for generations to come.
