Dominick Andujar Park
When Dominick Andujar tragically passed, his family and neighbors dedicated the park in honor of his memory. They wanted the park to become a destination for families and a safe place for children to play. The Trust for Public Land seeks to bring the benefits of parks and nature to the places, people, and communities that need them most. Seeing an opportunity to revitalize this space, we worked with residents from North Camden to reimagine Dominick Andujar Park as a family destination for all ages play.
The new park will offer toddlers and children two innovative playgrounds to climb and explore; athletes of all ages will be able to shoot hoops on the new basketball court, and the new park will offer outdoor cardio fitness equipment. According to the last U.S. census, the obesity rates in this neighborhood are 44.8%, compared to 26.8% in New Jersey. That’s why we worked with neighbors to design a playground surrounded by fitness equipment and play spaces to encourage a healthy family lifestyle. This project includes the first-ever outdoor ellipticals and stationary bikes in Camden. Walkers, joggers, and cyclists using the nearby Circuit Trail can even hop off the trail and swing by the park to cross-train. We hope the new Dominick Andujar Park will become the heart of a healthy neighborhood.
