Delta Park

What if a serene, quality park was just steps away from where you lived? For many East Greeley, Colorado residents, that vision is now a reality. Delta Park has been transformed into a vibrant community space that feels like a backyard to the predominately immigrant community living in the housing units and apartments surrounding it.

For years, the neighborhood’s only park was little more than an empty field and a crumbling basketball court. With no shade, no shelter, and few amenities, the space often sat empty—limiting opportunities for play, connection, and health. Like many low-income communities and communities of color across the country, East Greeley residents experienced firsthand the inequities that come with public spaces that don’t meet their needs.

But the community came together to change that. Through an in-depth participatory design process, Trust for Public Land worked side-by-side with residents to reimagine what Delta Park could be. Neighbors shared their hopes, ideas, and cultural traditions to shape a park that is truly built by the community, for the community.

Today, Delta Park is open and thriving. Shady gathering areas, modern play spaces, and culturally relevant features welcome people of all ages. The park now reflects the neighborhood’s vibrancy and provides a safe, inviting place to connect, be active, and find respite outdoors.

Delta Park is more than just a park. It’s a model for how community-led design can build resilience, strengthen social ties, and ensure every resident has access to the benefits of nature.
