Delta Park

What if a serene, quality park was just steps away from where you lived? We’re working to make that a reality for many East Greeley, Colorado residents. Delta Park feels like a backyard to the predominately immigrant community that lives in the housing units and apartments surrounding the park. But its current state doesn’t reflect the neighborhood’s vibrancy. When residents open their doors to run and play at the park, they are greeted with an open field with almost no amenities besides a dilapidated basketball court. With no shade or shelter, the park becomes sweltering and underutilized in summer months. In fact, the space lacks several fundamentals of a great park—something low-income and communities of color experience far too often—limiting their opportunity for social connection, accelerating poor health outcomes, and putting entire neighborhoods at greater risk of rising temperatures and severe weather. But with the help of our partners and the East Greeley community, Trust for Public Land is working to change that.

Through an in-depth participatory design process, we’re constructing a park that’s built by the community, for the community. We’ll use the ideas generated by the people that love Delta Park the most to build a shady space that is vibrant, comfortable, culturally relevant, and inspires play and connection. When complete, Delta Park will be inviting and welcoming to everyone and serve as a pilot model to advance other parks around the city.
