Statement from Trust for Public Land’s NY State Director Commending Mayor Mamdani’s Administration and the City of New York for Prioritizing Park Investment in Queens
New York, NY – March 25, 2026 – Following news that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration is prioritizing investment in parks and green space in Queens, Trust for Public Land’s New York State Director, Tamar Renaud, issued the following statement:
“We commend Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his administration for prioritizing investment in parks and open space for Queens. Budgets reflect priorities, and this commitment underscores that communities in Queens—particularly neighborhoods like Rego Park and Ozone Park—have gone far too long without equitable access to green space.
Two-thirds of the 20 most park-deprived neighborhoods in New York City are in Queens. QueensWay is a community-driven project, decades in the making, that brings us one step closer to delivering 47 acres of new parkland and safe, accessible green space for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers. It is exactly the kind of forward-looking, borough-wide investment that ensures no community is left behind.
We look forward to continuing to work with leadership in Albany, the Mamdani Administration, the federal government and our local partners to bring this long-awaited project to life for the residents of Queens.”
