Muses Beach

At Muse’s Beach in Westmoreland County, Trust for Public Land has helped conserve 144 acres surrounding George Washington Birthplace National Monument, helping preserve water quality, enhance climate resilience, and ensure that future generations can experience the region’s iconic farms, forests, and shorelines.

This project is part of a bold vision to safeguard the Chesapeake Bay watershed and Northern Neck Peninsula—an area rich in history and natural beauty, framed by the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers, and designated as a National Heritage Area. To date, nearly 3,000 acres have been conserved directly through TPL’s efforts to create a growing mosaic of publicly and privately conserved spaces that honor the region’s legacy and expand opportunities for outdoor recreation.

The protection of Muse’s Beach builds on more than 30 years of work in Chesapeake and was made possible through funding from the U.S. Department of Defense’s REPI Program via the U.S. Navy, and the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation.
