Wekiva Transportation & Infrastructure Corridor

Together with Lake County, the City of Tavares, and the City of Mount Dora, Trust for Public Land is helping bring the Wekiva Transportation & Infrastructure Corridor to life—a project that looks to the future while strengthening the heart of Central Florida’s communities. Stretching 11 miles, this multimodal transportation corridor is a vital piece to improving infrastructure and boosting tourism in central Florida. Once complete, it will boost the economy, connect historic downtowns, support community redevelopment areas, and create a safe, high-quality route for people to move through the region.

The Transportation Corridor will run through Lake County, linking Tavares, Mount Dora, and Sorrento, and connecting three employment centers and four communities that are key to sustainable growth. This new extension will also link to an existing multimodal transportation network to form a 26-mile continuous route that will further enhance accessibility to neighboring counties and improve outdoor recreation opportunities in the region. Projects like this have been proven to generate jobs, support small businesses, spark economic growth, and drive tourist spending. Through this collaborative effort, the Wekiva Transportation & Infrastructure Corridor will help Lake County grow into a healthier, safer, and more connected place to live and visit—for generations to come.
