We Grow Camden

Planting a single tree can make a big difference—improving air quality, mitigating heat, and boosting the physical and mental health benefits of nature to those nearby. These are just some of the reasons the City of Camden will be planting over 3,000 trees over the next five years. Thanks to the multiyear support from Trust for Public Land and our partners, the City of Camden will utilize a $6 million investment to support urban and community forestry across their city.

These trees will be planted in numerous spaces across the city including parks and public spaces, affordable housing communities, sidewalks and pedestrian corridors, and a TPL community schoolyard to ensure regular access to tree canopies. To further engage with Camden communities, TPL and partners will host over 25 planting and educational events for residents, ensuring their tree canopy dreams are heard and brought to life. This green transformation will mean 90 percent of Camden residents will live within a 10-minute walk of tree canopies.

Planting trees is only step one for the City of Camden, TPL, and our partners. Continued community input and collaboration with over 2,500 Camden residents will be vital in designing a plan to ensure that the trees—and canopies that come after the project’s completion—are well-maintained, well-loved, and continue impacting residents for generations to come.
