Tarpon Beachfront Park

The beaches in Destin, Florida are a vacation hot spot for people across the United States. Well known for their pristine white sand and emerald green waters, families flock to this panhandle town to create life-long memories together playing on the beach or splashing in the ocean. The city relies on this tourism revenue, but beach access—even for locals—is diminishing. Most beaches in this area are private and many public beaches are physically blocked by private owners and beach chair vendors. Residents and tourists alike experience the disappointment of limited and restricted access, which is why Trust for Public Land is partnering with the City of Destin to improve beach equity and create more green spaces that are open and welcoming to everyone.

Tarpon Beachfront Park is TPL’s third project that is helping create equitable beach access in Destin. Located along Crystal Beach, a popular gulf front neighborhood, the future 3-acre park will have over 345 linear feet of beachfront—that’s almost a full Olympic soccer field’s length of direct beach access. It will also be adjacent to one of the city’s beach trails, offering something for everyone to enjoy. Once open, Tarpon Beachfront Park will include amenities like restrooms and parking to ensure a quality space for all.
