Potter Brook

Hike along the beloved Long Trail and take in the natural beauty of Vermont’s forests and wilderness. As you amble along the ridgeline of the Green Mountains and look out over a sweeping landscape of working farms and forests, you might be less than a mile from 712 acres known as Potter Brook, which is connected to more than 88,000 acres of conserved public and private land.

Situated within both the Belvidere Quarry Important Plant Area and the Northern Green Forest Bird Block, Potter Brook is an essential habitat for wildlife, plants, and birds. Its mix of softwoods, mature hardwoods, wetlands, and pools supports a rich array of species, including migratory songbirds whose global breeding populations rely heavily on this region. With more than 70 acres of wetlands, it also shelters thirteen rare and uncommon plant species, offering remarkable opportunities for curious naturalists to explore and discover.

To safeguard these ecological values, we’re partnering with the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation, which will steward the conservation easement.

Once protected, Potter Brook will be permanently open to the public, inviting both locals and visitors to enjoy close-to-home outdoor recreation, from hiking and backcountry skiing to hunting, fishing, and simply exploring the quiet beauty of this remarkable place.
