Meadowbrook Farm

The Mountains to Sound Greenway is an iconic corridor of public lands stretching  across the Cascade Mountains to Ellensburg in Central Washington. The Greenway includes 1.5 million acres of national forests, sublime alpine lakes, rural farms, vital salmon habitat, and stunning high deserts.

Trust for Public Land has worked for decades to protect this stunning landscape, including our work at Meadowbrook Farm. This expansive property dates back thousands of years to the Snoqualmie Tribe. Known as “Hyas Kloshe Ilahee” (the Great Good Land) by these peoples, this space is said to be the birthplace of the tribe according to oral tradition. The area was used as a hunting and food gathering prairie, until early white settlers homesteaded the prairie for farms in the 1800s.

In the 1960s, the farm was sold to a group of local investors who sold off portions of the property but kept the core of the farm intact. But in a rapidly growing region, this place was at risk of development. In 1996, Trust for Public Land partnered with the cities of Snoqualmie and North Bend to acquire Meadowbrook Farm and protect its nearly 460 acres as public open space. Landscapes like this hold incredible history and meaning, and working together, we helped preserve its historical and cultural significance, safeguarding wildlife habitat, supporting agriculture, and offering public recreation for more Washington residents to enjoy.
