McArthur Lake

The McArthur Lake Wildlife Corridor, located near the cities of Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry, is an important link between the Selkirk and Cabinet mountains. Many wide-ranging species—such as grizzly bear, elk, and wolverine—travel across this area to reach the Idaho Panhandle and Kootenai National Forest. Many people enjoy the area for outdoor recreational activities, including hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

The Trust for Public Land worked with the Stimson Lumber Company and the Idaho Department of Lands to protect 6,846 acres in this area. The conservation easement eliminates the threat of development while protecting wildlife habitat, ensuring continued timber jobs, and providing public access for recreation.
