In May 2000, TPL helped protect 23 acres bounded by an important tributary to Mountain Island Lake. Acquisition of the land by Gaston County helps control runoff into the lake, part of a long-term conservation effort to conserve water quality. Fields on the property offer habitat for deer, turkey, quail, and bluebirds. The North Carolina Forest Service will manage the protected lands as a state educational forest from a residence established on the site. TPL conserved an adjacent 1200-acre parcel in 1998.
