Ensuring Healthy, Livable Communities

In the Northwest, our forests support vibrant communities by providing critical benefits such as clean air and water, recreational opportunities, and jobs. Yet our forests are increasingly at risk due to population growth, significant increase in outdoor recreation, and the effects of climate change. Trust for Public Land has a plan to protect our forests and our communities. By using data, advocacy, and leveraging funding, we are able to identify which forests are most at risk and can work with local communities to deliver solutions throughout Washington and Oregon.

Trust for Public Land is leading a movement that not only protects precious forestlands, but also generates social and economic benefits. And we do it by putting communities at the center of everything we do. Together, we can create healthy forests and healthy communities across the Northwest—ensuring we connect people to the benefits and joys of the outdoors and nature for decades to come.

How We Do It

As the leader in community-driven conservation, we engage and empower communities to take an ambitious approach to conserve precious forests and lands.

Public Lands for Public Good

We work with communities to understand local priorities, identify threats to the land, and implement conservation solutions that create public land to benefit everyone.

Advocacy

We work with elected officials, thought leaders, and communities to mobilize support for critical bills and policies to create, conserve, or enhance parks and public lands.

Data and Insights

We help communities prioritize investments in public land, using data and mapping technology to pinpoint where parks are most needed.

Funding and Leverage

We help communities generate funding for parks and open space, leveraging philanthropy to achieve a return of $2,000 in public funds for every $1 in private donations.
