Just a short drive from the quaint downtown of Bigfork, Montana you’ll soon find an incredible new system of trails stretching across more than 200 acres. Communities throughout the Northern Rockies continue to see increased residential development, and as new people have moved to the area Montana’s beloved trails have grown crowded. Located on the flanks of Swan Hill, this property was also once slated for the development of 17 new residential lots, instead, hikers will enjoy new quiet trails and relish unfettered views of Flathead Lake and the Swan Mountain Range.

Harrell Forest Community Trails will be more than a great place for people in the area to get outside close to home, it will also allow for continued forest health management to reduce the risk of wildfire. As well as habitat protection and landscape connectivity for wildlife species such as whitetail deer, turkey, and black bear. That’s why Trust for Public Land teamed up with Flathead Land Trust and The Montana Land Reliance to protect this special stretch of the outdoors for current and future generations.

In 2023, visitors and residents of Bigfork, MT should expect 236 acres permanently protected, a new trailhead and associated amenities, 4+ miles of new trails, and viewpoints overlooking Flathead Lake and the Swan Mountains.
