Florida Wildlife Corridor

Across 18 million acres of connected wilderness and working lands lies the Florida Wildlife Corridor, one of the country’s most important conservation landscapes. Home to iconic Florida ecosystems, expansive trail networks, and more than 130 at-risk species, the Corridor also protects drinking water, supports rural economies, and connects people to the outdoors.

For more than 50 years, Trust for Public Land has worked to protect these landscapes, helping conserve places such as Everglades National Park, Tate’s Hell State Forest, Bald Point State Park, and portions of the Florida National Scenic Trail.

Now, alongside the Florida Trails Association and Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, TPL is embarking on a new effort to protect the Florida Wildlife Corridor while improving and expanding the Florida National Scenic Trail—a 1,500-mile route stretching from the Panhandle to the Everglades. One of only 11 national scenic trails in the country, the trail passes through many of Florida’s most treasured landscapes and provides millions of Floridians with close-to-home access to hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, and outdoor recreation.

While much of the trail already exists, critical gaps remain, and corridor acreage is vulnerable. TPL and partners are working to close these gaps while expanding the cherished corridor by improving trail access, conserving important lands, relocating unsafe trail segments, and connecting communities to nature. Together, these efforts will help preserve Florida’s natural heritage while expanding safe and meaningful outdoor access for generations to come.
