Camp Laurel

For decades, the quaint town of Lebanon, CT touted the state’s largest Girl Scout’s sleep-away camp. Camp Laurel was a time-honored tradition where excited campers would spend their summers hiking, horseback riding, swimming, and connecting with other like-minded young women. Camp Laurel allowed its campers the quintessential camp experience, but more importantly, an opportunity to build confidence and foster empowerment while connecting to the beautiful Connecticut outdoors.

Today, TPL is working to not only protect these cherished childhood memories but also help create new memories for the entire town! With the help of our partners at the town of Lebanon and Avalonia Land Conservancy, Camp Laurel will soon be protected and provide unparalleled recreational access for the entire community. Three miles from the regional high school, nearly adjacent to the popular Air Line State Park Trail and conveniently close to Mono Pond State Park, the Camp Laurel Community Forest will provide space to hike a six-mile trail network, ride horses, snowshoe, and cross-country ski.

An essential element of protecting spaces like Camp Laurel involves the voices that will guide its future. Soon, local residents will be able to share their vision for the property and ideas for its management so that it will remain a lasting resource for recreation, conservation, and community connection.
