Trust for Public Land helped safeguard 345 total acres at Black Hammock Island with the help of local advocates, the City of Jacksonville, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the National Park Service—ensuring the land remains untouched and open to everyone who loves to get outside.

The protected land is now part of two adjacent parks, with 240-acres added to the Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve and the remaining acreage conveyed as an addition to the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve. These spaces provide expanded recreational opportunities to Floridians and play a crucial role in creating climate resilience against extreme weather events like hurricanes, warmer weather, and rising sea levels.
