What to Watch: ‘The First 70’

In May, Governor Jerry Brown announced a plan to shut down nearly a quarter of California’s treasured state parks. From iconic old-growth redwoods to the rock formations of Mono Lake, the closures put precious cultural and natural resources at risk.

For The Trust for Public Land’s California state director Sam Hodder, closing state parks is no cost-cutter.

“It is difficult to believe that the solution to California’s financial challenges will be found in dismantling a system of parks that draws visitors from around the world and provides thousands of jobs in communities throughout California.”

Heath Hen Films documentary “The First 70” tells the story of the closure plan with breathtaking imagery from the parks at risk. Watch the trailer below.
