The Trust for Public Land on the Trump Administration’s Decision to Eliminate the Bipartisan Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) in the Land and Water Conservation Fund

Statement from Bill Lee, Senior Vice President of Policy, Advocacy and Government Relations for The Trust for Public Land, on the Trump Administration’s Decision to Eliminate the Bipartisan Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) in the Land and Water Conservation Fund

“I am shocked and disappointed to see the Trump Administration gut the nation’s only funding program for local parks on their way out the door. Secretary Bernhardt’s zeroing out the program demonstrates a lack of understanding of what close-to-home parks mean to the 100 million Americans – including 28 million kids – who don’t have a nearby park. This program was part of the Great American Outdoors Act that was enacted this summer in an overwhelming bipartisan vote.  We ask the Biden Administration to immediately reverse this decision and recommit to ensuring everyone in America, regardless of zip code, has access to a quality, close-to-home park.”
