10 Minute Walk Honored as a 2020 World Changing Ideas Finalist by Fast Company

Today, 10 Minute Walk, a national effort led by The Trust for Public Land, was named a finalist in Fast Company’s 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards. The campaign’s 100% Promise, an ambitious goal to ensure that 100% of people living in U.S. cities have easy access to a quality park or green space by 2050, has been honored in the awards’ Politics and Policy category .

One of 200 global finalists, 10 Minute Walk’s 100% Promise has already proven to be a world-changing idea, with the support of over 300 U.S. mayors to date. The initiative raises the ambitions of cities and asks for concrete commitments at the local level by designing a clear rallying cry for leaders and influencers, to spark conversations around the importance of green space, create policy change, and have lasting, measurable impact.

“We are honored that the 100% Promise has been recognized as a Fast Company World Changing Idea. Now more than ever, we are witnessing the value of parks and the many benefits they bring to our communities, particularly the respite and relief they provide during challenging times ,” said Benita Hussain, director of 10 Minute Walk.  “As cities grow and our lives change by-the-minute, green spaces are keeping us healthy and connected. This recognition reinforces the importance of our mission to make them more accessible to everyone in the U.S.”

Nearly 100 million people do not live within a 10-minute walk of a quality park or green space in the United States, and the campaign works closely with community leaders to expand access.  To date, 10 Minute Walk has awarded more than $2.1 million to nonprofits and city leaders in close to 50 cities across the country working to improve parks and green space.

10 Minute Walk has been made possible by generous support from The JPB Foundation.
