John Shepard
John Shepard is an Associate Professor in the Hamline University School of Education and Leadership and has been the Assistant Director of the university’s Center for Global Environmental Education since he joined the faculty in 1996. His training as a cultural anthropologist and his work at Hamline explore the intersection of nature and culture. He has written and produced Emmy-winning broadcast documentaries for public television, programs for public and commercial radio stations, created large-scale interactive learning programs for K-12 students, professional-development programs and resources for educators, and museum-quality interactive multimedia exhibits. He lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with three generations of family and he loves exploring the region’s lakes, rivers, and forests by canoe and kayak and on skis. In addition to his Minnesota Advisory Board commitment with the Trust for Public Land, his public service experience includes board memberships with Project Environment Foundation (now called the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy), The Rivers Council of Minnesota, the YMCA of the North, and the International Crane Foundation.
