The Easton Highline

For generations, the riverside city of Easton has been defined by its unique geography; where the Lehigh and Delaware Rivers meet beneath the gaze of Mt. Ida. Just steps from its historic downtown, an aging elevated rail bridge spans this dramatic confluence, offering panoramic views that capture both Easton’s natural beauty and its industrial past. Now, a new vision for the future is taking shape.

Working in close partnership with the City of Easton and the Greater Easton Development Partnership, Trust for Public Land is leading efforts to transform this long-dormant rail bridge into the Easton Highline. This vibrant new public space will serve as both a local park and a gateway to the 144-mile Delaware & Lehigh (D&L) Trail, which winds through five Pennsylvania counties and connects towns, cities, and riverways across the region.

The Easton Highline will provide more than just a scenic place to walk or bike. It will reconnect Easton’s growing downtown business and residential corridor with the outdoors, creating a seamless link to nature, active transportation, and community life. The future trailhead lies directly across from senior housing, opening up safe, easy access to green space for some of Easton’s most vulnerable residents.
