Re-Enactment to Benefit Jamestown Protection 7/15, 16 (VA)

Williamsburg, VA, 6/13/2006: On July 15 and 16, re-enactors from the 2d Virginia Regiment will gather for the first ever re-enactment of the Revolutionary War Battle of Green Spring. The event will mark the 225th anniversary of the battle.

The July 6, 1781 battle was the last major clash, prior to the Siege of Yorktown, between roughly 1,000 Continental troops under General Anthony Wayne and 2,000 British, Loyalist, and German soldiers under British General Lord Cornwallis. Re-enactors from the 2d Virginia Regiment, a Revolutionary War living history organization, are raising funds for the protection of the original Green Spring battlefield. The Trust for Public Land (TPL), a nonprofit land conservation organization, has an agreement to purchase 198 acres, including a portion of the original Green Spring battlefield, from Hunter Vermillion.

The Trust for Public Land is a major sponsor of the event, and proceeds will benefit TPL’s efforts to purchase 198 acres of land near historic Jamestown, including a portion of the original battlefield.
