The property in the Blueberry Lake watershed will be added to the Green Mountain National Forest. It provides habitat for songbirds, black bear, and other wildlife and is a popular area for recreation. TPL purchased the land and then transferred it to the U.S. Forest Service using money from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.

TPL and The Nature Conservancy purchased over 11,000 acres from the Hancock Timber Resource Group. Conservation and public access easements were originally conveyed to the State of Vermont through the Forest Legacy Program. The land will be held until it can be resold to private buyers, who will sustainably manage the forest, protecting ecological resources, public access, and economic potential.

The 516 acre purchase in Warren marks a milestone in the multi-year effort to add this land to the Green Mountain National Forest. Federal funding--already in place--will allow TPL to transfer part of the land to the National Forest this spring. Private contributions are being sought to complete the project. With federal and local funding secured for the property, project partners are seeking private funds to cover the costs associated with completing the project, including legal work, engineering and consulting fees, property taxes, and interest costs.
