A Landmark of Dr. King’s Legacy, Protected Forever
Despite its role as headquarters of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Prince Hall Masonic Grand Lodge in Atlanta was for decades cut off from the public. Now, after a top-to-bottom restoration, the lodge joins Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park, giving the visitors a deeper appreciation of the civil rights movement.
The New York Times featured Trust for Public Land’s work to restore a landmark of the civil rights movement—ensuring it will be preserved for generations to come.
Elevating Civil Rights Sites in the SouthThrough the Alliance for Civil Rights Historic Sites, Trust for Public Land is partnering with the National Park Service to open and activate eight irreplaceable sites in the South that had seminal roles in the civil rights movement.

Host Ronda Lee traveled to the Sweet Auburn neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia—birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—to celebrate the grand opening of the Prince Hall Masonic Grand Lodge, where Dr. King, and many other Black leaders, catalyzed the early Civil Rights Movement.
