Hanover, New Hampshire is a sought-after place to live and work thanks to a thriving economy and abundant recreational opportunities. To help protect Hanover’s rural character and provide a welcome retreat for local residents and visitors looking to connect with nature, The Trust for Public Land and local partners are creating the 250-acre Mink Brook Community Forest.
The property contains the headwaters of Mink Brook, mature forests and a scenic hay field on Greensboro Road. It’s also close to downtown Hanover and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, New Hampshire’s largest employer. This new community forest will offer the opportunity for new trails for walking, biking, and cross-country skiing and will buffer the adjacent Appalachian Trail from development. Conservation of the property is part of the Town of Hanover’s open space plan to create a greenway around the downtown. Residents will participate in the development of a new management plan that balances sustainable forestry with ecological protection and development of new trails and recreation opportunities.
Given its location near Downtown Hanover and major employers, the property is highly threatened with subdivision and development. We need your help to protect this special place so that residents and visitors alike can enjoy Mink Brook Community Forest — forever.
