Lake Louise

The Metedeconk River, which flows from forested wetlands through densely populated communities, provides drinking water to 100,000 people in eastern New Jersey. In the small town of Howell, a housing development was proposed on 60 acres of forest and wetlands surrounding Lake Louise, threatening to pollute the river’s watershed. In October 2004, TPL worked with the community to purchase and preserve the land and the 12-acre lake to protect water quality and maintain the rural character of the area. The town plans to link this newly protected open space to an existing park with a greenway bike trail.
