At Trust for Public Land, we believe a successful park project isn’t a product, it’s a process. That’s why we work hand-in-hand with community members to bring their green space ideas to life and create a place where everyone feels welcome. Our work at Glen Canyon Park is no exception.

With our partners at the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, we led six community planning and engagement workshops to listen to residents and discuss what they wanted in their local park. This feedback was used in the park’s overall master plan and included features like trails across the property, a playground, baseball fields, improvements to the existing recreation center, and open space to relax with friends and family.

The canyon itself is considered one of the City’s Significant Natural Resource Areas with its forested slopes, wildflower beads, and stunning rock formations. In addition to creating space for people to enjoy, the protection of this land meant safeguarding the landscape’s beauty and important habitat for native plants and wildlife.

Today, the park is beloved by people in the surrounding Glen Park, Diamond Heights, and Miraloma Park neighborhoods. A place for a picnic, a hub for youth sports and day camps, a playground for kids to run, or an afternoon wandering the trails—Glen Canyon Park has something for everyone to enjoy and connect to nature.
