Though Portland, Oregon, is renowned for its parks and open space, there’s still work to done before the city can meet its goal of putting a park within a half-mile walk of every resident by the year 2020. The Trust for Public Land is working with Portland Parks and Recreation to focus on densely populated areas that most need new parks—places like the Cully neighborhood, which has the city’s lowest number of parks per capital.

The Trust for Public Land, the City of Portland, and Cully community groups are collaborating on an innovative plan to convert a private golf course into a public park. We helped purchase the land for the city, which will equip the 85 acres with playgrounds, recreation fields, and restored forest and wetland areas to protect wildlife and water quality.
