In 2005, the historic Ballam Farm, situated on the banks of the Connecticut River and above the town of Walpole’s most productive drinking water aquifer, was nearly sold for development into a car dealership. A concerned community sought TPL’s help, and in 2008, Walpole was able to protect an important source of drinking water, while a conservation easement allowed a new family to continue running a productive farm and the public gained new recreational access to the river.
