The Adams Canyon Story

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is the largest national forest in the Lower 48 states, and its varied landscape offers something for everyone to enjoy: snowcapped mountains for skiing, wooded forests for camping, glistening streams for fishing. Over 4 million visitors come each year to connect to the outdoors and to one another, so when Adams Canyon—723 sought-after acres including two large canyons, intermittent creeks, and habitat for several endangered species—became available for protection, Trust for Public Land worked with the U.S. Forest Service to safeguard this threatened landscape. As an addition to the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, TPL’s efforts helped guarantee public access from the Carson Valley to the iconic Sierra Crest and Tahoe Rim Trail, meaning more amazing vistas, high alpine lakes, and dreamy meadows to connect to forever. The property was slated for subdivision and fragmentation, but now, visitors have more room to explore and experience the majesty and splendor these national treasures can bring.
