Kimpton Hotels Supports Parks for People, TPL

San Francisco, CA, 3/3/2005-Kimpton Hotels announces a new summer campaign to support a national conservation nonprofit, the Trust for Public Land (TPL), with creating new parks in America’s cities. The two-month campaign, Parks for People-More than a Dream, will begin June 1 at Kimpton’s 38 eco-motivated American boutique lifestyle hotels.

“For many communities new parks are merely a dream,” said Steve Pinetti, Kimpton Senior Vice President for Sales & Marketing. “Now as summer travelers rest at Kimpton Hotels, they can help the Trust for Public Land make the dream of parks for people come true.”

Kimpton Hotels will offer a variety of ways to support TPL’s efforts to ensure that everyone-in particular every child-enjoys close-to-home access to a park, playground, or natural area. From June 1 through July 31, guests will support the Parks for People fundraising effort simply by staying-and dreaming-at Kimpton Hotels. Fundraising activities will include:

  • Tiered giving opportunities for Kimpton Hotel guests and employees
  • Specialty reservations with a percentage going to the Parks for People program
  • A series of national events to raise visibility and donations

“Kimpton’s commitment to the environment is very much a part of how we serve our guests and we are proud to support TPL’s work to create new parks in our communities,” said Pinetti.

Through Parks for People, TPL has completed 425 park projects in cities nationwide, most in park-poor neighborhoods. These parks address critical recreational, health, and social needs, and also benefit the environment and local economies.

“With eighty percent of Americans living in cities, and as many as two in three residents without access to a park, the need for new parks is urgent,” said Will Rogers, TPL president. “Kimpton’s commitment to making the Parks for People dream come true gives guests a delightful and eco-friendly place to rest, and a unique opportunity to help kids across the country.”

Kimpton Hotels has a global, eco-friendly outlook that includes a sense of responsibility, appreciation and care for the planet.

Recently Kimpton announced a partnership with eco-stylist, Danny Seo, an environmental advocate and contributor to Organic Style magazine. Seo will focus on style and design direction, create “green” proprietary products, as well as offer guidance on corporate sustainability and choosing eco-friendly practices. Kimpton begins conserving at the top, using recyclable paper and soy ink on all collateral and correspondence in the San Francisco-based home office. Other eco-friendly activities at Kimpton Hotel include water saving and recycle programs, the company also has plans to develop eco-floors at its 38 hotels nationwide.

“This is an excellent way for guests of the Kimpton Hotel to support the critical work of the TPL. This summer, when you are staying at a Kimpton property, you can do your part to protect our parks by taking part in this special opportunity,” said Kimpton’s Eco-consultant, Danny Seo.

In 1995, Kimpton began creating EcoFloors, now in four of their hotels, which offer eco-conscious guests the opportunity to stay in rooms specifically designed with conservation in mind. Hotel Triton in San Francisco has become completely green, earning the distinction as the model for California’s Green Lodging Program. The Triton still offers a premium EcoFloor with pure, organic and natural eco rooms, including everything from air and water filtration, to organic linens and bedding, to energy-saving lighting – and celebrity suites.

The two-month Parks for People Campaign is in addition to an ongoing Kimpton Hotels commitment to the Trust for Public Land. Kimpton donates $10 to TPL when reservations are made requesting the “TPL rate.” Reservations at Kimpton Hotels can be made by calling 1-800-KIMPTON or by going online at kimptonhotels.com, clicking “reservations,” selecting a hotel, choosing travel dates and entering TPL in the Rate Code field.
