Florida Forever Coalition Backs $1 Billion Annually for Land Protection

Tallahassee, Florida, 10/6/2006: A coalition of sixteen regional, state and national nonprofit organizations today announced its support for extending and expanding the state’s program for conservation land-buying.

“We propose that, by 2008, Florida Forever or a successor program spend up to $1 billion per year preserving environmentally sensitive land, buying parkland, and securing our water resources,” the Florida Forever Coalition stated.

The announcement came in an open letter (see file attachment) that ran in today’s edition of the Tallahassee Democrat, signed by organizations that included The Trust for Public Land, The Nature Conservancy, Florida Recreation & Park Association, Audubon of Florida, and Florida Wildlife Federation, among other.
