Sloan N. McGurl

Sloan N. McGurl joined The Trust for Public Land as Chief of Staff in September 2018. They come to the organization with a deep commitment to equity and an expertise in organizational design and management strategies, with a focus on social enterprises working to improve quality-of-life outcomes for traditionally underserved communities.

Prior to joining The Trust for Public Land, Sloan was the Director of Board Relations at the Environmental Defense Fund where they led the development of their global governance framework and board operations infrastructure, enabling more effective governance and cross-organizational collaboration. They were also responsible for the revitalization of the Board of EDF Action.

Before the Environmental Defense Fund, Sloan was a founding employee of Van Jones’ non-profit accelerator, Dream Corps where they were charged with operationalizing the vision. From establishing the resource development function to launching national communication partnerships, their work at Dream Corps was informed by ten years of experience in relationship management and fundraising. As a design-informed strategist, they thrive on partnering with innovative leaders dedicated to creating a more equitable and sustainable world.
