Federal Affairs Internship

The Trust for Public Land is seeking a highly motivated and externally oriented undergraduate student or recent graduate to intern in our Washington, DC office for the 2020 Spring semester.
This position will involve assisting the Federal Affairs team in the planning and execution of Trust for Public Land’s ‘Day on the Hill’ event on May 19 and 20 where volunteers from across the country come to DC to meet with their members of Congress. The internship will also include assorted administrative, clerical, research, and programmatic tasks and projects. Many of these duties will be in support of staff’s lobbying activities on Capitol Hill.

The position is due to start ASAP through end of May, 2020.

  • Prepare for our Day on the Hill, May 19 and 20 by scheduling meetings, assembling relevant materials and working with state directors on volunteer prep
  • Conduct “Hill Drops” of materials to Congressional and administration offices
  • Do research and prepare blogs, letters, fact sheets on public lands issues
  • Perform general administrative duties in support of assigned project work.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about our work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Must be a team player and willing to work in a collaborative environment
  • Willingness to adapt and remain flexible as projects and priorities change
  • Self-motivated, passionate, and professional

Compensation and Time Commitment
This is a paid internship, being paid at $17/hr

Applicants must be able to work at least 10-15 hours per week, and should be available for our Day on the Hill, taking place May 19 and 20.  Our office is located a block from the Navy Yard metro stop.
