The Trust for Public Land’s recent Illinois work clusters in and around Chicago, whose motto, “Urbs in Horto”—“City in a Garden”—reflects a century-old tradition of urban parks. TPL has partnered with local government and community leaders to help Chicago recover this livable character, building new playgrounds and trails in neighborhoods that previously lacked access to green space.

On the Northwest Side, the three-mile Bloomingdale Trail will transform disused rail lines into a linear park connecting residents to the river—and to each other.
