Montana

The rugged Northern Rockies that run through Montana comprise both unspoiled wild lands—virtually all the native plant and animal species that were here at the time of the Lewis & Clark expedition remain—as well as our working lands—farms, ranches and forests that epitomize the American West.
Vast expanses of public wild lands provide habitat for wildlife found nowhere else, including grizzly bear, gray wolf, woodland caribou, wolverine, and migratory salmon and trout. Interconnecting these public lands are private lands, mostly working farms and ranches. For generations, people have worked these lands, fished the streams, and raised families, cherishing their beautiful surroundings and rural way of life. Our goal in the Northern Rockies is to advance landscape-scale conservation while sustaining healthy communities, protecting the land where we love to live, work, and play.
