Jamaica Bay Shoreline Park

Instead of 20 single-family houses, New Yorkers will enjoy a park on an acre-plus of property along Jamaica Bay. The much needed public space will serve more than 2,400 community members living within one quarter of a mile from the park and provide opportunities for fishing, picnicking, and paddling.

The vacant Jamaica Bay waterfront property along Beach 88th Street in Queens was identified as a desirable public access point to Jamaica Bay by partners TPL and New York City Audubon. TPL purchased the land with funding authorized in 2001 by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for their Hudson-Raritan Estuary Resources Program, and donated the property to the City of New York for park development.

TPL supports community efforts to reclaim public access to waterways, protect natural lands, and increase parkland in the country's most densely populated urban area, an ambitious undertaking stretching from Staten Island, through the lower and upper portions of New York Bay, and along both sides of the Hudson River up to the northern tip of Manhattan.
