Newark Riverfront Park

Redevelopment of the Passaic River waterfront is a major priority of the City of Newark under Mayor Cory Booker's administration. Like projects in other East Coast cities, revitalizing the Passaic will transform a blighted waterfront into a vibrant public space. Creating safe, accessible, and welcoming public parks along more than two miles of riverfront will connect residents, workers, and visitors to this historic waterway. Through 2011, TPL will help the City turn its vision for a revitalized Passaic River waterfront into a reality.
TPL is the lead partner in developing the first Newark Riverfront Park, a 7.1-acre riverfront park in the Ironbound neighborhood, where there is currently less than a half-acre of parkland per 1,000 residents. Public meetings helped develop a design that reflects the history, culture, and interests of the community. The park will include trails for walking and biking as well as a floating dock for boating access to the river. Other features will include a riverfront boardwalk, a performance pavilion, educational signage, and native plants.
