Stonehouse Pond

As a catch and release, fly-fishing-only trout pond, 241-acre Stonehouse Pond offers anglers a wilderness experience more commonly associated with the North Country than New Hampshire's increasingly urbanized coastal area. While primarily used by anglers, this stunning pond bordered by towering cliffs is also popular with non-anglers seeking solitude or glimpses of the abundant wildlife residing on the property.

The Trust for Public Land conserved Stonehouse Pond in two phases, purchasing 11.56 privately held acres that contained an access road and parking area used by recreational visitors to the pond in 2007.  We held onto this land for three years while working with partners to raise funds to acquire the 230.2 acres surrounding and including Stonehouse Pond.

The area will now offer to the public year-round, low-impact recreation, including hiking, cross country skiing, hunting, fishing, trapping, canoeing, bird watching, and nature appreciation.

Partners include the Strafford Rivers Conservancy, New Hampshire Fish and Game, the Town of Barrington, Carolyn S. Bedford Trust, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), New Hampshire Conservation Committee, Piscataqua Regional Estuaries Partnership grants, and individuals.
