Every summer, vacationers flock to Bethany Beach on the Atlantic coast south of Delaware Bay. The beach is also adjacent to the Inland Bay's region, an important system of estuaries that provides habitat for shorebirds, migratory birds, and young marine fish. Stressed by vacation development, the Town of Bethany asked TPL to help protect the last large open space in town--one of the last places available for wildlife viewing and habitat protection. TPL negotiated the purchase of 26 acres of marshland and forested upland to help preserve the community's natural character.
