Boeddeker Park

Boeddeker Park is a one-acre city-owned park in San Francisco's Tenderloin district—the City's densest neighborhood with the greatest number of families living below the poverty line. The park is within walking distance of 50,000 people, many of whom live in single rooms.

A Community Driven Redesign Process
Boeddeker Park's existing design contributes to a derelict, inhospitable atmosphere with obstructed views and limited recreational amenities. Neighborhood residents, youth, and local business owners developed the new park design over the course of three years, ten workshops, and countless focus groups. Amenities in the community-generated plan include adult fitness equipment, a perimeter walking path with ramps instead of stairs, a large lawn, new play equipment for children ages 3-12, a full-size basketball court, sustainable landscaping, and a new energy-efficient clubhouse with clear views across the site. The new design addresses safety concerns of neighbors and police, while enhancing recreational opportunities for people of all ages.
