Live Oak Landing

Not long ago, the area along the Tensaw River known as Live Oak Landing was on the fast track to development. The landowner, having completed a master planning effort, was obtaining permits to build a large-scale residential community on the 621-acre property, threatening water quality and the permanent loss of public access to the property's forested landscape and popular boat launch.

The economic downturn prompted the owner of Live Oak Landing to consider selling the property. Together with Baldwin County and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, The Trust for Public Land worked to acquire the Live Oak Landing property for permanent protection.

Part of the Alabama Gulf Coastal Birding Trail, this area supports diverse and critical habitat for many birds and endangered species such as the Alabama Sturgeon and Alabama Red-bellied Turtle. The Mobile-Tensaw Delta’s unique landscape offers opportunities for camping, canoeing, hiking and photography.
