Roxborough State Park

Colorado's Roxborough State Park is best known for its dramatic red sandstone formations. It's also the only park in the state designated as a National Natural Landmark because of its diverse ecology and geologic formations. It is home to many species of plants, birds, and wildlife including golden eagle, black bear, red fox, and bobcat. And while many large parks are far away from large cities, this unique natural area is just 25 miles south of Denver. In the mid-1980s, The Trust for Public Land purchased 748 acres in Douglas County that had been targeted for development, protecting the land as an addition to the state park.
